Our family just spent two nights at Buffalo Safari Lodge. At first we were quite impressed, that we were upgraded to a deluxe family suite. We were happy with the rooms that are large, spacious and stylish, however there could be more attention to detail in such a place. For example, it was a shame to see how much blue toilet cleaner is flushed right into the surrounding nature. The bathrooms lacked some basic things like hooks and cloth hanging areas.
The restaurant area was quite plain, and we were honestly quite disappointed by the food. It seemed that quantity weighed higher than quality, and there were some funky mixes of local and western-type foods. Most of the food was quite oily. There was a real espresso machine, but no one knew how to use it well. Generally, we expected a lot more for a place in that price range.
The staff are kind and very attentive, but it does get a bit much and rehearsed when both waiter, host and chef will come to check on you at every meal. You will also barely finish your food, before the plates are cleared creating the feeling that you should hurry up to finish. The staff, especially Charity, was very helpful when we had a sick child on our last day, and she arranged for us to eat in our room.
The surroundings and the pool is nice, and we almost saw as many animals from here as in one of our game drives.
The place has a lot of potential, but at the moment it is not value for money. With a bit more attention to detail and a bit of work on the food it would be a very nice place.
